June 16, 2023 — Who are the people you wanna hug right outta their shoes? And what would you want to whisper in their ear at liftoff?
While this design is one of our 24 brand new, it actually began as an email I received from Contributing Cardie Ann John back in 2020. It felt so good to read that line that we hung onto it all this time, waiting for the right image to come along.
Ann had initially emailed me back in 2017, introducing herself in this heartwarming way. “My love of a good card is in my genes. My mother lived every moment of every day and unexpectedly passed away two years ago at the age of 94 watering her garden on a lovely afternoon in May. She’d apparently stepped out in the middle of writing in a card to a 100-year-old friend. That unfinished note was mailed as it was, with an added explanation of how it was found.”
After reading that and enjoying some quality back-and-forth, I made my way to South Carolina to meet Ann and her just as fun and lovely sister Carla Schmitt. They’ve done their Cardie Mama proud by already authoring nearly a dozen Cardthartic cards between them! It’s been a few years since we spent that too-short weekend together in Charleston, but I’ve been on the happy receiving end of many a much-appreciated Thinking of You card from The McCracken Sisters!
I love how Cardie Coordinator Lauren Rowell described the need to send Thinking of You cards. “I don’t believe people come to mind by accident,” she said so wisely. “I think it’s God or the universe or some kindly inner voice letting us know that that person needs to hear from us.” Hmm, yes, how many times have just the right words reached you at just the right time?
And then there is the terrific way Contributing Cardie Karen Trostle expressed it in a comment she made on a recent Cardie Newsletter:
Inspired by Mama McCracken and her girls, along with Lauren and Karen, we’d love for you to consider who might be needing a Thinking of You from you. I love a “thinking of you card”, one that is unexpected & comes at a complete surprise. When my husband picks up our mail I ask “anything fun?” And he knows just what I mean. I love to send & receive them.
