Feb. 19, 2021 — “I’m holding you … in my heart” is how the full message on this card reads. Please join us in sending its warmth to every heart in Texas. They’ve had too many three-dog-nights already, so we pray they get relief soon.
It’s National Love Your Pet Day, and since so many of us feel the love each and every day, we decided to think of it as National Tell Us Why You Love Your Pet So Darn Much Day :) We invite you to comments below and — to get this fun lovefest going — following is what a few Cardies had to say about their beloved furbabies.
Many of you already know Contributing Cardie Valeria Palmertree for all her gorgeous messages we’ve published. “In the seven years since Summer spunkily marched into my life,” Valeria says, “we’ve done an immeasurable amount of walking, this golden girl and I. And with every mile, we have grown closer.
“Summer has introduced me to countless strangers, forced me to laugh (even when I didn’t feel like it), woke me in time to see sunrises I would have missed otherwise. Until I had one of my own, I never understood this seemingly inherent human thing for dogs. I get it now: the incessant loving on me, needing me, missing me, making me feel like I’m the most exciting person in the room and the comfiest spot in the house.”“I love my Kush Kush for her unconditional love,” Gay Gelman says. “No matter where I am and no matter how I feel, she finds my lap and comforts me. AND it’s so fun that she loves to go for her mani-petis! ‘Look, Mom,’ she’s saying, ‘my nails are as pretty as yours!’” (Haha, can you tell this is one pampered puss livin’ la vida loca in L.A.?) “Kushy is the first girl cat I’ve ever had,” Gay explains, “and the only one ever with claws. Because I cannot do claws, I got her these soft tips put on at the groomers. Neon. Ha! Her mani-petis cost more than mine!”
Contributing Cardie Oriana Lehman Wood says of her two loving chocolate Labs, “I love Ginger and Brodie because they remind me that their whole world revolves around me and my interaction with them, so I need to be focused and present and give them lots of love. That love is all they need to be happy, a message that truly applies to us all. They remind me of that every day.”
As we were completing this Cardie Newsletter, in came this amazing image from Contributing Cardie Jenni Betz. Her 11-year-old Tucker is the eldest of her three boys. “They all ADORE their kittens,” Jenni says, including Calvin. The pic will make a powerful card when we find the right message. Meanwhile, it sure says it all on National Love Your Pet Day!
This post brought me such joy! Thank you to everyone who’s shared their precious pets – they’re all pawfect! Sending each one of them (and of you) much love.
We love our kitty Annabelle because she found us! On a cold December night in 2019 this cat with no collar or ID showed up at our front door as my husband was going to the front porch to turn on some outside Christmas lights. She is the first “equal opportunity” pet we’ve ever had, caring for each of us (I had always been the ‘cat person’ in the family.) We did not mean to keep her, but were smitten – and she has been such good company during the pandemic. She makes us happy every morning.
I loved all the pet stories & photos. When I walk the boardwalk in Spring Lake NJ there is one bench with a plague that perfectly states how animal lovers feel. It says “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went,” ~ Will Rogers. This special bond we have with animals can be with a dog, cat, bird or even wildlife that as a volunteer you are helping with the goal of them going back to their native habitat. The bond starts when you look in their eyes and you can see their soul. They have nothing to hide. They are just pure heaven on earth.
Cami is my happy place.🐾🐾
