MAY 7, 2019 – The day after her college graduation last week, I asked our Creative Coordinator if she’d enjoyed her family gathering to celebrate. “It was very nice,” Liz said kinda dreamily. “I was surrounded by all the special people who helped me get here. And received so many ‘I see you’ gifts!” The very best kind.

Cardthartic had given Liz a Swarovski crystal star, because that’s how she’s seen in our organization. :) “And my older sister gave me a little plush Winnie the Pooh dressed in a cap and gown, holding a diploma,” she described. “If you didn’t know the backstory, you might think it was just a silly gift, but it meant the world to me.” Liz explained that she’d received a Winnie the Pooh plushie for her first birthday, and had loved it dearly. “Then, at 10, when we were packing to move to the United States from Colombia, I told my family that there was no way I was going without Winnie. So all these years later, for my sister to acknowledge how important that first friend was to me, and to give me a Graduate Winnie representing the grown me, was just very touching.

“And my mom, wow,” Liz continued, knowing how much I enjoy hearing the sweet meaning behind gifts that really resonate. “Mom surprised me with beautiful emerald earrings. She said she wanted to give me something that would hold special meaning for me throughout my life; something that had the makings of a family heirloom. Colombia is known for its emeralds,” Liz explained, “so Mom’s gorgeous gift will forever connect me to both my family and my heritage.

“I’ve always loved wildflowers,” Liz went on appreciatively. “As a kid I made little bouquet after bouquet. So when my best friend and boyfriend arrived separately, both carrying the exact same wildflower bouquet, I was smiling from ear-to-ear. I love that they know me so well and are so good at showing me! :) And, such a nice surprise, two great ‘I see you!’ gifts actually came from our Cardies,” Liz said with a proud grin. She’s gotten to know Mary Morini and Nancy McGinn through our publishing the many messages they’ve written. “I’ve always known what kind-hearted people they are,” Liz said, “but it felt really good to have that Cardie-love directed at me!” Mary sent a book by a poet Liz loves (Rupi Kaur) that she’d mentioned in passing more than a year ago now. “And, from Nancy, Oprah’s new The Path Made Clear was perfect, especially with Nancy’s inscription, ‘Congratulations on already finding your way to a job you so love.’ They’re keepers!”

Liz is now hard at work on our Summer release, with her Thanks for seeing me! cards already in the mail. “I’ve always loved this Meanings of Life thank you card,” she says. “It’s just now I appreciate the message so much more. It’s simply true!”
