MAY 1, 2019 – With 12 days in the run-up to Mother’s Day, we want to share with you a lovely recurring theme we see among Cardies. It’s as Alison Estes said in an email, “I’m so grateful that my Mom passed the card-loving gene to me!” So, in honor of Mother’s Day and the love of cards we all share, we thought this a sublime time to introduce Cardthartic Gift Cards. :)

We’re guessing that, if Joan Straughn’s mother were alive, she would be mightily inclined to give a gift card to her Cardie daughter. And vice versa! “Mom worked for Hallmark until she retired at 80 — part of the reason I’ve always loved cards and eventually started writing verses of my own” (including two that became gorgeous Passages cards). “I lost my mom at 87 last November, and now treasure anything she penned,” Joan said. And what a find: “While going thru Mom’s keepsakes, I discovered a large box filled with hundreds of cards her six children gave her over 62 years.”

Candy Clausell shared a similar sweet story, and would surely think a Gift Card for cards was just the thing for her Aunt Nippie. :) “I’ve always loved and sent a lot of cards,” explained Candy, “but never appreciated how much that meant to people on the receiving end until I packed up my aunt’s house after she passed away. Under her bed I found a big box filled with two decades of cards from my sister and me! Aunt Nippie was like a mother to me — raising us after our mother died — so you can imagine how moving it was to see for my own eyes how much she cherished all those cards we’d sent over the years.”  Pam Clark agrees, “I’m a Cardie from way back, because my dearly departed Aunt Louise made it her unofficial ministry to send cards and make people happy, and that rubbed off on me!”

Cardie Hank Betz, 3 years old

Yesterday, as we sat weaving together all these dear Cardie legacies, in popped this fun set of pics from Rosemary Tolliver. She and grandson Hank had been out Cardthartic card buying in one of the Oakland Nurseries near their Columbus, OH, home. “Perfect timing!” we wrote Rosie, “as we’re this-minute writing a piece on how card-sending is so often a family trait and tradition.” Rosie and her daughter/Hank’s mom, Jenni, both are wonderfully prolific card senders and, as we came to find out more than a decade ago now, wonderful and prolific card writers! Jenni and Rosie’s story of becoming part of the Cardthartic family is a beautiful tale all its own. And, who knows, one day we may publish Hank, too! As he quick made his card pick, Rosie claimed, “He may have just turned three, but he can ‘accomplish’ more in two unsupervised minutes than some adults do all day!”

If a gift that keeps on giving appeals to you, orders that include Gift Cards placed by 4 PM CST this Friday, May 3rd will ship that same day … along with much love to the mothers and aunties and other nurturing souls you feel blessed to call family and friends.
