June 2, 2022 — Worry and care. They do have a way of swooping in and taking up so much space in our hearts and heads that they can crowd out the more positive feelings of love, fun, and joy nesting there.

If my worry-prone dad were still with us, I know he would be shaking his head saying, “The world is going to hell in a hand-basket, Jo.” Lucky for him, he had a daughter who was more inclined to shoo the worries away and look for the blessings and the bright side. And no matter how grim things get, the world still has many ultra-positive, steeped-in-gratitude people affectionately known as Cardies. 🥰

We thought it might lift all our spirits and ease our minds today to focus not on our worries but on some good, hopeful signs.

This year we’ll celebrate 335 million birthdays in America. And who knew that the busiest birthday month of the year is September. Hmm … could that be Santa delivering on Christmas wishes?

Weddings have come roaring back. We’ll celebrate 2.6 million nuptials this year alone. And the most popular month for weddings for a few years now: October.

We’re valuing friendship more than ever. Over the past two decades, the percentage of us who have chosen to remain “just friends” rose 14%, raising the total of unmarried Americans to 35%. No stats available on friends with benefits. 😉

More than 35 million sets of house keys are expected to change hands this year. At least a million of them will open the door to homes with four wheels, part of the more than 11 million RVs Americans now take to the road.

We’ll get to collectively ooh and aah, giggle and coo over the 3.6 million Gen Alpha babies expected this year. Yep, sales of home pregnancy tests have increased by 13% in the past two years. (Santa strikes again!?!)

Opting for the more than seven hours of leisure time a day that retirees reportedly enjoy, our 65-and-older population is the fastest growing age group in the US. It’s grown by more than 34% in the past decade alone.

Wishing you and our nation a peaceful and hopeful weekend. All will be well.
