August 2, 2022 — Giving you a heads-up here, Cardies! August is historically the month in which more babies are born than any other. And statisticians say that, this August, the US will see a noticeable little bump with the birth rate expected to rise to nearly 12 babies per 1,000 mommies.

I’ll level with you … for all the joy and satisfaction that comes with motherhood, “Mom” is something I never felt equipped to be. It’s a challenge I was always absolutely sure I was not up to. To know that every decision you make, along with your every word and deed, will be shaping the adult a child is to become felt way out of my league.

Haha, as my dog Gracie and I walked past the large yard of our little community center yesterday, I heard one cool, collected mom call out, “No! Never aim for the face.” 😳 I watched as she calmly took the golf club from a kid in the middle of a dozen others, then demonstrated, “A putter should never be held more than six inches off the ground.” Ay yi yi.

The only thing I’ve ever wanted to birth are new card designs, including the 20 that we sent to the printer yesterday that you can expect to see around Labor Day (no pun intended). Hmm, I wonder if the feeling parents get when seeing a report card that shows nothing below an A is anything like the pride and gratitude I feel when I read high marks from caring Cardies like Paige Baker. Last week, Paige emailed us this pic that she had snapped at her desk. It was sweet to see how she planned to acknowledge the arrival of wee Micah.

Hehe, her email Subject line was fun and felt really good to read. Paige had written simply, “Today’s episode of Adventures in Card-sending.” 😆 It was happily affirming.

Because she’s sent us thoughtful You Are There pics a time or two before, we can imagine what an amazing mom Paige must be, always finding little ways to be supportive and encouraging! And she’s not the only booster in this community; Cardies at cardthartic.com checkout often write in the Order Instructions field something like, “Keep up the good work!” It seems to me that, if those few kind words make such a positive difference to those of us who work at my brainchild Cardthartic, how much more would receiving a supportive card mean to parents who are trying to raise good humans.

Below the link to all our New Baby cards, you’ll see a selection of designs that might inspire you to send parents you know an encouraging card or few. And, just for fun, you’ll also see a link to two great odes to mom that I heard last weekend on NPR’s Snap Judgment. They make for an interesting 45 minutes of listening, and prompt me to hope and pray that the nearly 400,000 tiny new people who enter the world this month will grow up to love and heap praise on their parents much as these great storytellers have done. Enjoy!
