ALT=Aug. 5, 2020 — Did you happen to see 17-year-old Justin Hunter interviewed by CNN’s Chris Cuomo August 3, 2020? The young man lost both his parents to Covid just days apart last week. If you watch it below, fair warning, it was powerful but excruciating 😢 I wanted to jump through the tv, ask Justin if I could please give him a big hug and then whisk him away from what felt like such intrusive questions when he was in such obvious pain. But, wow, he hung in there, honored his emotions, and was very inspiring …

About five minutes in, he was asked how he was able to maintain such incredible poise and perspective in the face of tremendous loss. How was he coping? “What are you telling yourself?” Cuomo asked. And this gentle giant who hopes to play pro football one day answered, “My dad, he told me that, in situations like this, I have two choices: The first choice is, I can sit here, cry, feel sorry for myself and be kind-of-useless and not do anything. Or, I can cry, realize what happened, accept what happened, and move on from what happened. I’m moving on, and am going to do everything in their name from now on.”

That did it for me and my Cardthartic colleagues. We may be the non-confrontational type, always promoting happiness, peace and harmony but — if we’re really going to honor all our emotions here — we have to acknowledge the anger and frustration, too. There is a way for us to help lawmakers see past the politics to this enormous pain: We’re sending our Act NOW postcards, and offering them FREE to you, no purchase necessary.

There is strength in numbers, Cardies. So, in the name of Justin, his late parents Angie and Eugene — in the name of all our own family members and friends we love dearly — please join us in ensuring that Congress knows how critical we believe it is to pass coronavirus relief legislation without delay. Yes, “there’s a chance” they’ll take this up on Friday before their recess … and how many times have we heard that? This stimulus could and should have been enacted months ago. Seeing thousands of bright and bold Act NOW postcards delivered to their offices will be more impetus for them to Do Their Jobs.

You’re already great at expressing how you feel, and as many free Act Now postcards as you will send will be on their way to you today. You can quickly find all the addresses you’ll need to contact congress here. Together, we’ll be honoring our emotions and using the power of our pens. Fyi, at Cardthartic, we’re writing something as simple as:

> Work together!
> Pass new coronavirus aid legislation
> Push for masks and rapid-result test kits FREE to ALL Americans
> Press the administration to use the Defense Production Act to make more PPE , masks and tests sooner and faster
> Create safe and clear back-to-school guidelines
> Provide small business relief

I’ve always loved the quote, “If ever you think you’re too small to make a difference, you’ve never been in bed with a mosquito.” Act NOW postcards are FREE and — you’re a Cardie — so clearly you’re good, smart, caring and principled. For everyone’s sake, let’s pick up our pens! Thank you for considering.
