September 13, 2022 — We’d planned to introduce our new FREE Get Out The Vote postcard to you in last Friday’s Cardie Newsletter but, naturally, acknowledging the Queen’s passing took precedence that day.

Ironic, isn’t it, that this revered head of state and diplomatic force to be reckoned with the world over was to remain strictly neutral with respect to political matters in her own country. Queen Elizabeth was duty-bound never to weigh in on an election; not once in her long life did she vote.

Maybe it was because she had no real say about who was to become prime minister or what bills would become law — voters make those decisions — that she stated firmly, “Elections are the fundamental means by which everyone can participate in the business of government … we must encourage all our people to exercise their right to vote. This is a real challenge now before us all.”

The four proud Americans shown above know all about encouraging people in this country to exercise their right to vote … these passionate members of our Cardie Community all work tirelessly to rally the troops in their own communities and to make their views known to national lawmakers as well. They can be counted on to commit the time and devote the energy needed to bring about positive change.

It was Cardie Roxann Hassett who proposed we create the new VOTE postcard. Back in June, she emailed us, “As I am nearing retirement, I’m spending more time as an activist. I volunteer with a few voter registration organizations and, being a huge fan of Cardthartic, I am inspired to write and ask if you’d have any interest in creating postcards for volunteers at the various postcard project organizations?”

Motivated by her commitment and honored that she tapped us for support, we replied, “Thanks for your civic engagement, Roxann. Needed more than ever! We already have two postcards that we have proudly provided at no cost: Please Listen and Act Now. Cardies have collectively sent more than 50,000 of them to lawmakers. Sounds like you’ve identified another important need. Count us in!”

She was then great to send samples illustrating the Do and Don’t of getting out the vote. 💪🏼 For example, “One suggestion I have is to design a card with the entire back blank to allow for a longer message.” Check! “Leave space for larger handwriting. Many of the organizations I’m writing with have set scripts that are lengthy and, when our handwriting is small, I’m concerned recipients might toss the card instead of reaching for their glasses.” Check! “Make them affordable. Many people want to volunteer and simply can’t buy the cards and stamps needed.” Check!

Having learned through past initiatives how civic-minded Cardies Gloria Dougherty, Judy Gibson and Candy Clausell all are, we emailed a PDF of Roxann’s brainchild to each of them for input. As always, our great graphic designer Brandon Hawthorne listened carefully and created accordingly.

Because these four Cardies in Action were keeping a close eye on our progress, they knew when the postcards came off press. Gloria emailed, “I placed an order on Sunday and 750 cards were delivered Wednesday morning. They are terrific. The design is great; sure to catch the eye of all who see them. I like the full side for the message and the matte finish on the writing side,” was her feedback. “I meant to send you a photo earlier of the work in progress, but got too wrapped up. My goal is to mail potential voters state-wide early this month, and then move on to a more local campaign. All with the goal of democracy!”

The non-partisan postcards are FREE for the asking. We will ship as many as you will use to any individual or group who connects with the words to the wise printed on every postcard: “The outcome of every election hinges on who shows up.”
