Sept 1, 2023 — If you’re one of the more than 95 million Americans heading out this holiday weekend, we trust you’ll still be with us in holding a good thought for the safety of everyone in Idalia’s path, and still feel for those trying to make their way forward in the hard-hit coastal regions of Florida as well as Maui.
Does this travel card feel meant for you, making you among the “fun-loving folk always ready to pack a bag?” Or are you quite content to experience travel adventures second-hand, as fondly told by a family member or friend? I know I marvel at the idea of exploring the 70 countries on all seven continents as Contributing Cardie Gay Gelman has.
If there were any way to keep up with Contributing Cardie Sammy Sasson, I’d love to tag along to see through the eyes of this professional photographer whose images already grace three Passages cards. She and her equally adventurous husband Mickey have been to 40 countries on six continents — so far! — and today fly from Miami to Israel. There, they’ll collect Sammy’s mom, then they’ll all head to Rome where they’ll meet Sammy’s sister’s family from Australia for a month-long celebration of their matriarch’s 88th birthday. Whew, that family does go!
Then there are those who are happiest staying home, pursuing other passions. If you click the buttons below, you’ll see we publish many cards for many passions. Whatever your pleasure this weekend, take to heart the words of thought-leader Marie Forleo, and enjoy!

So many great cards I would purchase however along with the wonderful sentiment inside it says “Happy Birthday.””
Leave that out! I can write that in myself. It looks really tacky to “Wite Out” the birthday sentiment. Hence, fewer purchases. ☹️
Oh, Lea, we could not agree more! Unfortunately, we’ve learned the hard and costly way that — 70% of the time — people are shopping for birthday cards and, unless a card has “Happy Birthday!” printed in it, it will be placed in the Friendship or Thinking of You sections where then people don’t see them because of course they’re dead-set on BIRTHDAY. Consequently, many great cards that you’d think would sell well simply don’t. It’s crushing every time one of these must be discontinued. We so agree with you, Lea, that — at one point years ago — we left Happy Birthday off nearly all our designs and, instead, printed shelf-talkers that said BIRTHDAY/FRIENDSHIP to bring attention to the cards in the store fixtures. I’ll never forget the call from one of our retailers who said, “Sorry to say, I have to return all these cards that don’t say Happy Birthday because, well, because I think my customers must just be stupid. All day long I watch them scratching their heads over BIRTHDAY/FRIENDSHIP until I just want to throw a pen at them and say, ‘Can you not just pick up a Bic and write Happy Birthday yourself?!’ But, unless it’s written for them, they just don’t get it and the cards just sit.” It would be funny if not so disappointing! To your point, not a week goes by that I don’t send one of our cards on which I’ve crossed out and swooped over “birth” to make it “Happy Day” and thought, “How ridiculous.” Alas. But thanks for making your feelings known!
My thought about “Birthday” or not birthday is that you have so many selections of cards and there are as many ‘Friendship” category cards where I can write in “Happy Birthday” if I want to as others where is is already printed. I just look around until I find the right message whatever category it is in Best of all. . . I didn’t even have to drive to the story to buy it. Wow !!!
Ah, yes, Paige, but my take-away from Lea is that she wishes she could send more of the birthday designs “just because” without the unsightly crossed-out Happy Birthday. Gotta love her for that! And you, O Wise One, ALWAYS! (:-j
