June 13, 2023 — Are any friends or family members of yours moving to a new home? What a bittersweet thing that is, eh?! I find this congratulations card written by Contributing Cardie Jeanne Jackson so soothing and unique, focusing as Jeanne has on the person rather than the structure.

While it’s not one of our 24 New Designs, it’s on my mind today because — bright and early tomorrow morning — our apartment building will be tented for termites. Which means that this afternoon will be spent packing up any and every thing that goes in or on one’s body and relocating out of fumigations’ way for two days. Before moving to Miami Beach from Chicago 25 years ago, I had no idea there was such a thing as a crane dropping an air-proof tent down over a building to end the reign of the destructive little buggers within … but I bet Jeanne Jackson did!

“My New Home card message was inspired by my own experience of living in 42 ‘new homes’ throughout my life,” Jeanne says. “My family has a long history of military service. We have lived around the world and experienced the beauty of many different cultures and countries.

“I believe that every new experience brings a different focus on how to approach things,” Jeanne describes. “Each experience is like a different thread in an intriguing tapestry, and each thread is critical to the overall beauty.”

Jeanne shares, “I have always been an observer of life. In third grade, I started studying and writing poetry and was given my first camera. Early on, I was ‘assigned’ to take pictures of class field trips and activities by my teacher (a serious photographer) who gave me gentle instruction in composition and creativity. And writing allowed me to express myself so much easier than in person. I loved it!

“I love the feeling that a simple honest card sends,” this talented writer and photographer now says, “whether the message is through words or an image. As you send a card to someone, the openness of your heart shares a caring spirit and adds a touch of thoughtfulness to someone’s day.

“I was introduced to Cardthartic through my friend Donna Hopkins, whose words and photos both have been published on several Cardthartic cards. The company became even more special to me when I became a Contributing Cardie myself in the fall of 2021!” The latest message Jeanne shared with us became this beautiful new Wedding Gazebo card.

“In this Cardie Community, I feel like I’ve found a place of sharing and compassion,” she says, “and who doesn’t welcome that into their life?”
