MAR 13, 2020 – Yesterday morning, before the influx of emails from companies stating their coronavirus response, we heard from our great graphic designer, Brandon. “When they say the best thing for everyone is to stay out of harm’s way, aren’t we lucky to be able to work from home,” B wrote to our little Skype-connected Creative team. “I can’t help but think of and worry for all the nurses, doctors and aides, the grocery store workers and bus drivers,” he said. “Think of all those out there where this virus is circulating, risking their own health being of service to the rest of us.”
Think of them, we did … and then we thought of you. Knowing that Cardies are generally among the most affirming people around, Cardthartic’s coronavirus response is to give you two free cards with which to let two dedicated workers you know — or perhaps two you don’t — let them know that you truly appreciate the difference they make.
Before March 23, add two to your cart and, at check-out, they’ll appear at no-charge. No purchase necessary; please just consider sending one to a nurses’ station somewhere, or to a nursing home c/o their employees. Don’t forget the mail carriers who — through snow, rain, and gloom of night — deliver all those caring cards you send throughout the year. And rest-assured, all our Fairy Cardmothers are practicing self-care.
Do what you always do, Cardies: Make the world a better place, one card, one small kindness at a time. And be well.

I just forwarded this to my list of card loving friends. We have much to learn in these days ahead. How to slow down; how to become aware; how to reach out; how to remember kindness is free and one size fits all. Let’s remember to share kind words and words of encouragement as we grow together as a community and a country.
As always, I was listening to NPR while drinking my first cup of coffee this morning. Reports on the spread of the coronavirus, the dismal response by our country’s leaders, and the crashing stock market were getting me down. Out of the blue, I thought of the young man who manages my retirement savings. It seemed likely that he was having a terrible week. I remembered a cardarthic gem in my collection. “Sometimes we have to just hunker down~ and get through it. Keep on.” I wrote a few lines of encouragement to Justin and guess what? I felt better. I smiled when I found this message in my email. My Fairy Cardmothers are always on the same page, and often one step ahead of me : ) Reaching out and offering support is good medicine. I will keep on!
That is a brilliant idea!
I am in Germany + can’t order online from here, and I can’t assume everybody here can translate from English – but I can take that idea and run with it: Buy “Danke!” cards and give those away, or get little “thank you” presents for post- deliverers.
We have all been silently thinking “Thank You” in supermarkets, hospitals, etc. for the last week, but now (and very likely for some time to come) we can and should go loud with that feeling….
I just placed an order for some great cards I will be mailing to people who are shut in (which is all of us). I will be mailing my “Difference You Make” cards to my daughter-in-law in the medical field and to my niece who is an ER doc. When I was out, once in the last week, I thanked everyone I came across for doing their job. Thanks Cardthartic for reminding us to do this. I can think of nothing better to do with my time than to let people know I care about them by having something fun in their mailbox. Might be the only time they get out for awhile.
