February 14, 2023 — Along with your Fairy Cardmother, our whole crew at Cardthartic wants to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day. And just for fun, we thought we’d share a sweet little love story courtesy of Cardie Susan Colvert.

Two weeks ago now, Susan emailed us “to share a potential card message created by my six-year-old granddaughter, Maddie. I wanted to send it to you because it seemed ‘so Cardthartic’ to say so much in so few words!”

She went on to explain, “Maddie and I decided to make a heart cake together. We talked about how a heart could be made from a square and a circle, but ended up using a heart-shaped pan instead. 😉 When we decided to use the piping bag to make our own little conversation hearts on the top of the cake, Maddie showed her self-confidence and determination (i.e., a lot of “I know” and “I can do it”) and she insisted on creating the last heart message all by herself.

“She set out to write, ‘BE MINE.’ I saw her squeezing the bag tightly, concentrating hard, and biting her tongue as she wrote, and I stepped away to let her do her own thing. It was when I heard her complaining that, ‘The Y is too big and doesn’t fit in the heart’ and ‘The X came out crazy’ that I realized she’d gone in a totally different direction. I turned to see what she was writing with the uncooperative alphabet, and there it was: ‘BE MY XO.’

“I’m sending this to you because it struck me as such a wonderful way to say ‘I love you.’ The inside of such a card could read ‘forevermore’ or ‘for aways’ or ‘for today and all of our tomorrows.’ It could be for a valentine, or an anniversary card, or any special day someone wanted to share those big words. Just thought I would pass Maddie’s message along for your creative consideration!”

Here’s to you, Susan and Maddie, and every Cardie out there keeping the beautiful art of honoring emotions alive and well for generations to come. Again, Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours as we are here to love and be loved.
