OCT 23, 2018 – “But you’re a beautiful one all the same,” reads the inside of this birthday card. We hope you’re blessed with amazing friends and family to whom you want to send such a card, and we love that so many of you have adopted our friend Hannlis as one of your own. :) Her 95th birthday is coming up November 4th so, again this year, we want to give you a heads-up in case you want to slip a card in the mail. (For her 94th, more than 60 caring Cardies did so. What a hoot.)

For anyone new to our Cardie community, I write often about my dynamo friend here on Miami Beach. In the past couple of years, Hannlis has defeated colon cancer for a second time, and bounced back from a broken hip. Whether setting her Kindle fonts to inch-high letters so she can outwit macular degeneration and keep reading Walter Isaacson’s massive Leonardo da Vinci, or raising her phone’s stargazer app to the night sky, this marvelous mentor is endlessly inspiring. And entertaining!

Hannlis by her Beemer

A few weeks ago, Hannlis drove herself to a doctor’s appointment and, drats, shut her seatbelt in the door getting out. When the door would not reopen — not even after being muscled by AAA — she marched right around to the passenger’s side, crawled across the seats and console, drove home, then did it all again in reverse! Mind you, just six months ago she was flat-out in a rehab facility, recovering from hip surgery. But, more recently, she’s been back to walking her mile a day, getting back in shape for her six-week trip to Germany to spend Christmas with family. :)
Needless to say, Hannlis’ endless love of life will have us pulling out all the stops for her 95th. If you’d like to show you’re with us in spirit, Hannlis would no-doubt get a kick out of hearing from you. And, because she texts but rarely checks her email, receiving Cardies’ cards will be a “Surprise!” Fyi, they should be in the mail by this time next week:

The more cards the merrier, as they’ll be a great diversion for her … she’s already on pins and needles about the midterms. She’s asked me three times now if I’m sure there’s no way to confirm that our mail-in ballots have been duly received. “I want to be sure my voice is heard,” she says. An inspiration to us all. ❤️
