APR 17, 2020 — For all the fears and challenges you’ve faced down this week, how about giving yourself an extra long hug today. And, while you have your arms wrapped around your caring and thoughtful self, maybe give yourself a pat on the back … as Cardie Judy Cortner wrote us recently, “Until we can reach out with our arms again, we can reach out with our cards.” It’s heartwarming to report that many of you are doing just that.
In the past month, you’ve together sent more than twice the number of cards you did this time last year. You’ve ordered so many of our Thank the Helpers collection especially (that’s the set of 10 Cards for $10 for 10 Helpers), you can trust that many selfless folks on the front line are seeing your kind expressions of gratitude.
Your sending more cards now says to us that you’re not only opening your hearts a little wider these days, you’re also giving more friends, family and, yes, the Helpers too, the great feeling that comes from opening envelopes filled with love from you. At the same time, you’ve generated much-needed income for our small business when nearly all the stores that sell our cards are closed. And your orders have also made it possible for Cardthartic to split that income with the wonderful shops hanging on to the hope of reopening in your neighborhoods one day. Thank you. When the world still feels like it’s in free-fall, thank you all for staying solid and true to who you are.
I’ve found it very dear: Each evening now, my friend and neighbor Hannlis heads her walker in the direction of her apartment three doors down from mine; she’s been sequestered on the balcony outside my place all day, watching the sea dance and play. H opens my front door and, still six feet away, looks me in the eye, extends her arms wide and then gives her whippet-thin 96-year-old self a big squeeze. “You’re in here,” she’ll say, looking down at her arms embracing her heart and then back up at me. “Do you feel it? I’m holding you right here!” Every night.
I know that virtual hug goes for you, too, Cardies. Night and day. Please keep doing the loving things you’re doing, and stay well.

Dear Jodee,
Just reading your message today gave me a warm feeling, of the joy, comfort, calmness Cardthartic cards can bring. I would love to send cards to the heros on the “Front lines” of this horrendous onslaught. However, in our part of no. California, I am not aware of hospitals that are besieged like they are back east . If you have suggestions, please let me know.
One of my Scrapbook “sources” has initiated a request for handmade cards to be sent to first responders, etc al. They are asking for cards without any wording on the inside. I have not been making cards lately, but it is one of my favorite things to do. I think today’s the day. If I knew how to send a handmade card to you , I would. I suppose I could send it via Cardthartic, and ask them to forward it to you. I figure it’s a trustworthy group. Don’t hold your breath (as my parents used to say) , but there is HOPE!
Have a wonderful weekend.
