JUL 31, 2018 – Inside this longtime favorite card is a sweet and simple, “Climb in.” Over the years, we’ve heard from a surprising number of Cardies who’ve written to say they love that they can send this supportive card for so many different reasons … considering the heartbreaking California wildfires, we’re reminded of a touching story we read from Cardie Dot Coltrane nearly a year ago now.
“Father’s Day weekend, my older brother and sister-in-law watched their house burn to the ground after it had been struck by lightning,” Dot wrote. “Luckily, they were safe at their daughter’s house across the road, where they’d gone for dinner.
“My brother is 86 and his wife 81, so this event was devastating — it would be at any age, but they had lived in this house for nearly 40 years — yet their coping skills have been remarkable. Fortunately, their insurance company was attentive and patient in helping them list belongings (mostly from memory since nothing was saved) and gave them the funds to rebuild. They moved temporarily into a neighbor’s house, and took their time deciding whether to rebuild and where. Two daughters and several grandchildren live close by and have helped in a multitude of ways, and their neighbors and church friends have been incredibly generous, too.
“Living several hours away and feeling powerless to help, I started sending Max and Isabell a different card every week, and I would always find the perfect message of encouragement in a Cardthartic card. I like to think each card I send lifts their spirits, and I plan to send more. One in particular — the Little Red Wagon card — is in an order I just placed on your website today.
