May 26, 2023 — Who’s ready to hit the beach … or the pickle ball court … or maybe just the couch?! Work-wise, the Memorial Day weekend has always felt to me like the end of the first leg in this 12-month marathon we’re running … and here come three great days to power-rest and enjoy!

If you had your wish, who would be parked next to you there on the shore? The card is a Cardie favorite, written by one of our favorite Cardies. Mary Morini had graciously emailed me back in the summer of 2015 to say how much she enjoyed our cards and newsletter. Little did we know then that the simply lovely way Mary has of putting things can now be found on 19 cards and counting! Or that we’d have become the forever friends we are thanks to this Cardie Community.

This weekend, here’s to “the making of many more fond memories.” I’m now laughing at the recent memory of Mary asking me to please retell the following story here in CNews. Cracks me up that she remembers the story when she wasn’t there when it happened, but that’s a forever friend for you, eh?! Here goes:

Living here on the quiet north end of Miami Beach, I love skinny dipping in the sea. When no one is around, I swim way out, hang my suit over my shoulder, and bob ‘til I’m waterlogged. One morning while out there leisurely treading, I saw a man that I’d often seen walking the shore passing by. He waved real big. I waved back. He yelled, “Why do you swim so far out?!” and, still paddling, I hollered back, “Because I like skinny dipping!” Taking that in, he yelled again, “And you don’t want anyone to see that you’re not wearing a suit?!?” At that, I felt happy, free, and thoroughly understood as I hollered back, “Right!” to the man who promptly replied, “Then you’re not out far enough!”

Have a great weekend.
