July 19, 2022 — Great words to live by. And the new card’s backstory brings them to life perfectly …
Back in the cooler days of April, Contributing Cardie Mary Pat Rossi emailed us to say, “I love Christine’s Hallmark in State College, PA, and it would be so great to be able to buy Cardthartic there. Am I okay to suggest your company to Christine? Not sure if she would be open to it, but she always has fresh new lines of cards and very unique gifts. Please advise as I don’t want to step on any toes but would love to have Cardthartic in a store close to me! Thanks, mp”
Mary Pat’s wish became the command of our great Pennsylvania Rep Darla Markley. “Just left Christine’s Hallmark,” Darla shared a few weeks later. “She is excited to bring in two 64-pocket Cardthartic fixtures, one each for Passages and Meanings of Life.” We responded, “We always love your speed, passion and commitment, Darla!” and she replied, “These times have taught us to keep moving forward and lean into the curves.” 😉
Well! We emailed Darla right back, “On top of opening a great new account, we think you’ve written a great new card here!” We attached the proposed image and added, “If you agree that your message and the photo work well together, we’ll plan to publish. Now how would you like the dedication on the new card back to read?” Darla knew straight-away: “To all the unplanned events of my life.”
By June, Christine’s Hallmark had received its first shipment of cards and free fixtures. Mary Pat sent this pic to say, “I was in State College today and of course stopped at Christine’s!!!! She agreed to pose for me by her two new spinners of Cardthartic cards! She is so happy to carry the line. ☺️ And I’m so excited that she is spreading the love at her store!”
Haha, and not a week later, our self-appointed Brand Ambassador Extraordinaire Mary Pat emailed again. “Now, Holly’s Hallmark, right here in my home town of DuBois, has moved to a new location and has 1,000 additional square feet of space. Christine knows the owner, so maybe … Just putting that out there for your company growth and my personal shopping pleasure.” 💕
May we all be as quick and agile as MP, Darla, and Christine — leaning into the curves and capitalizing on the opportunities we see. Personally, I am leaning into the insanely steamy hot curves here in Miami by spending as much time as possible in the sea, and carrying a new UV-protective sunbrella when I walk my little dog Gracie throughout the day.

I am the buyer for an art and frame shop in PA and Darla is my sales rep. I just read this blog entry when I searched my emails to find Darla so I could send her an email. I feel like I needed to read this today, I love the story behind the card but also, small, small world! Mary Pat’s home town is my father’s home town! It’s such a small town so it was a little surreal to see DuBois mentioned in a blog from Cardthartic. I’m off to email Darla and let her know I need to add her card to my spinner!
