JULY 19, 2019 – What if we go into this weekend believing? What if we hold a good thought for this One Nation Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All?

Because the All is Well mantra has served me so well over the years, we put it on a Pretty Words card so you and your loved ones might benefit from it, too. In troubling times, I repeat All is Well to both calm my emotions and as a wish for our world. That practice came in handy this past week when a few of my Miami Beach neighbors and I walked out of our little building to go down to the sea and saw that some vandal had scrawled the hateful n-word in six-inch black letters on our building sign. In 22 years of living in this peaceful little coastal community, we’ve never seen a hint of senseless ugliness like that. One of the neighbors tearfully said what we were all feeling, “What a sad sign of the times.”

So I ordered All is Well cards to give each of my dozen neighbors — eight lovely Americans originally from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ireland, Israel and Venezuela, and four who know how blessed we are to have been born in the USA. At the same time, I ordered a dozen more of our FREE Please Listen postcards to send to elected officials with my request to use whatever influence they have to implore the president to speak to and of people with dignity and respect.

Do I want to spend my weekend honoring my emotions by writing pleading postcards? No, I’d much rather sit under a big beach umbrella watching sandpipers scamper by. But for my peace of mind — and for the sake of my foreign-born neighbors who have become friends because their diversity so enriches my life — I’m taking this Einstein quote to heart, “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

Coincidentally, just as I was wrapping up this story, a new Retail Partner included in her order 50 Please Listen postcards. I quick called Shelly Carithers at The Creator’s Hands gallery of art and craft in Rochester, told her what I was up to and asked, “What are your plans for those 50 postcards?” She replied, “We plan to stamp and give them to our customers, stressing the need for us all to pay more attention to what’s happening. These postcards will make it easier for our customers to express their views to their legislators, as well as to lawmakers throughout the land. This cannot go on.”

Quantities of our Please Listen postcards are FREE for the asking. And, if you or someone you know wants help holding a good thought through these trying times, we will slip a FREE All is Well card in every order placed this coming week. I’m going to order a batch for friends and family now because, the more I assure myself that All is Well, All is Well, All is Well, the more the card’s message feels true. “And so it is,” inside the card reads, and that’s also our simple wish for our nation and you.
