APRIL 2, 2020 – Over the years, we’ve come to see that gratitude generally fills a Cardie’s heart. That was very clear in the past few weeks, when so many of you ordered our two free cards to acknowledge the Helpers out there. And it’s what inspired us to curate a Thank the Helpers collection of 10 cards for just 10 dollars. The collection consists of five of the very versatile The Difference You Make card and one each of five Cardie-favorite Thank Yous.

We know that selling cards at $1 each, then splitting the income with our stores, means we won’t make any money … but if the special low price will allow you to thank that many more workers risking their own health for ours, we all come out ahead. Those on the front line deserve all the love and gratitude our little Cardie community can muster!

After receiving the two free Difference You Make cards we offered back on March 13, Cardies reported mailing them on to the Helpers working their heart’s out at nurses’ stations, assisted living centers, and police department EMTs. They sent them to beloved teachers learning to teach remotely, and tucked them in their mailboxes for their carriers to find. One Cardie even ran a card out to her garbage collectors, “I waited to catch them six feet away, but still on our street.”

“Thank you for your kind card” read the thank you note that Contributing Cardie Mary Morini received from the parish priest she’d sent The Difference You Make to; in it she’d acknowledged his moving sermon the previous week. “You made my day,” Father Tueth wrote Mary. “It’s encouraging to hear that God is working through me to help others.”

Coincidentally, “Counting on the Holy Spirit and some divine intervention!” read the text message that nurse Kathy Holzman sent to her friend (and Contributing Cardie) Susan Lyon yesterday. Also a dear friend of mine, Susan and I happened to be on the phone when the message popped in. Susan said she’ll order the Thank the Helpers collection today explaining, “Kathy is one of the brave nurses going into battle at Cleveland Clinic. The rest of her text says, ‘I’m going to need some super powers. The next 2-3 weeks will be critical. Let’s hope people stay home so we can knock this thing out.'” Bless you, Kathy.

“Thanks for encouraging this,” wrote Contributing Cardie Nancy McGinn back on the 13th. “I can think of nothing better to do while sheltering-in-place than letting those still out there providing essential services know that we’re grateful and praying for their well-being. The healthcare heroes, especially.”

And Cardie Amy Murray emailed, “Just got back from dropping over a dozen Cardthartic cards in the mail. In times like these,” the ever-eloquent Amy wrote, “empathy, compassion, kindness and love will win the day. Stay safe, be well and take good care,” she wrote. “The world needs you, Jodee Stevens!” From Amy’s grateful heart, through mine, to your own: Let’s stay put and Thank the Helpers!
