Now a Contributing Cardie, Lauren Rowell introduced herself back in 2021 saying, “I find incredible joy in spreading love through written words. And so often the feedback I receive is life-giving as well.
“I discovered Cardthartic in 2020 during the pandemic when I saw the company’s Thank the Helpers collection in a Facebook ad,” she explained. “What beautiful and life-affirming messages! I really enjoy the Pretty Words card line. As a lover of affirmation and empowerment, I especially appreciate the one that says, ‘You are strong. You are brave. You are loved.’ Also, I have found the boxed note card set with cardinals a great way to connect with those grieving the loss of a loved one.
“Back in 2015, I had a couple of unexpected seizures,” Lauren shared. “While I was recovering, a lady from my church sent me a very touching and personal note in a card. Knowing how much it meant to me to receive this ‘real mail’ (meaning non-ad, non-bill, and non-solicitation letters), in May of 2016, I began to send cards with personal notes written in them.”
As of May of 2023, Lauren had sent 6,600 cards! In each, she penned personal messages and then recorded in a notebook the recipients and dates sent. In addition to making many of her own cards, this most resourceful Cardie attended local outlet store’s going out of business sale and stocked up. “It was better than any Black Friday sale could ever be for me,” she fondly recalls. “The four-hour sale had all the cards priced at a mere ten cents apiece. But when I heard that all the leftovers were just going to be pitched at the end of the sale hours, I couldn’t bear to see that happen! I bargained with the store owner for the whole lot and became the owner of four SUV loads of cards. What an adventure and blessing that has been!”
One grateful recipient of the cards Lauren sent was Cardthartic’s founder, Jodee, who was touched that she was on Lauren’s radar and, even more, loved what this very committed Cardie had written in the cards. Jodee asked Lauren if Cardthartic might publish some of the lines she’d mined from the notes she’d received, and Lauren happily agreed. Cards with “Message by Lauren Rowell” on the back came into being!
Lauren’s most recent is a lovely support & encouragement design that carries a message she originally penned to a dear friend. “Last year, Bek provided most of the caregiving for her mom through at-home hospice,” Lauren explained. “Bek cared for her mom until her final breath. It was a tumultuous journey. Along the way, there were people who ‘shoulded’ on Bek for not doing things as they would have, or expressing emotions they thought improper but, to me, loving Bek well meant meeting her exactly where she was and loving her with grace right there. No ‘shoulding.’ No fixing. This card conveys exactly what real love and friendship look and sound like to me.”
“You know you’re a Cardie when you spend your life actively observing,” Lauren says, “looking for those who need just a bit of love or recognition. The number of times the right card, with the right words, gets to the right person at the exact right time is breath-taking.” She believes, “It’s all about giving love away – that’s truly where the joy comes from.”

Lauren is a “Cardie” extraordinaire! I have been the happy recipient of her heartfelt, handwritten messages that have given me hope, encouragement, and joy just when I needed it most. She is very intentional about choosing the “right” card with a sentiment that fits each person’s situation. Seldom have I ever met anyone who can articulate emotions and thoughts so appropriately in every situation. Certainly, Lauren’s light shines brightly through her thoughtful “cardie” nature! What a generous soul.
With a grateful heart,

Your cards are exceptional. I have been ordering for several years. I especially love the short but meaningful messages, not wanting to read paragraphs inside a card when a few well chosen words are much more effective.
For over twenty years I have grown pansies, violas, bougainvillea, sweetheart roses, etc. I dry them and enclose with a note inside your wonderful cards. There is no way to pass along how much this means to the recipients whether a note of condolence or just a hello. For me, there is joy in making this small gesture.
