It was Rosie’s daughter, Jenni Betz, who became one of our first Contributing Cardies back in 2009. Not long after, the well-read and beautifully-spoken Rosie wanted to get in on the fun, so she tried her hand at writing card messages. More than a dozen āMessage by Rosemary Tolliverā cards later, we love having Rosie in the fold! She contributes much more than card messages, emailing our Creative team every few weeks to share her wit, wisdom and insight. And sheās always on the lookout for potential card images as well as messages.
Hereās an example of how Rosie works for the good: In the spring of 2017, we emailed all our Contributing Cardies to invite them to submit any potential messages they might have for the summer release. Right back came an email from Rosie that read, āFor the past few weeks, I have been consumed with caring for my older brother, John. I am eager to do some writing, but it will have to wait a while longer ā¦ it did occur to me to share with you the words my husband, Rod, said when I called home to tell him that John had passed away. They felt perfect. āWell, he lived long and he lived well, and it was time to say good-bye.āā Ā Perfect indeed.
The following day, along came another email from Rosie, along with the photo to the right that you see. “The next generation enjoyed a game of friendly flag football on the church lawn after my brother’s funeral service,” she wrote. “This picture of the grandsons is such a good reminder that there can be joy right in the middle of sadness. We need the love of family and special memories to carry us through the tough times. There’s a card in there somewhere …ā
Yes, just like their author, Rosieās cards are all full of real life love and fun and wisdom. Long live Rosieās goodness!
