“I don’t know who said it (Mr. Rogers? Kermit the Frog? My mother?), but I have always tried to live up to the adage, ‘In a world where you can be anything, be kind.’ And what better way to show kindness than to send a card that has THE most perfect and exquisitely stated sentiment? That’s why I was thrilled when I discovered Cardthartic while browsing on Facebook.

“While my mother probably wasn’t the one who said the quote above, she did set a wonderful example about sending cards. She kept her ‘card drawer’ fully stocked. If Cardthartic had been around then, I am certain that she would have purchased one of everything in your entire inventory. And it is only my budget that prevents me from doing that myself.

“When I received my very first Cardthartic order, I was delighted to find that I now had my very own Fairy Cardmother and I always look forward to receiving a note from her. And when she recently sent me a letter asking me to join this community, she added that there was no pressure to join and promised that she would not seal all my envelope flaps together if I didn’t. I love that my Fairy Cardmother has a delightfully impish sense of humor.

“I have so many favorites from across all the categories that I have sent and that have been deeply appreciated by the receiver. But probably the two that mean the most to me are actually ones that I bought to give to myself. I became my beloved husband’s full-time caregiver during the last two years of his life as he suffered from advanced Parkinson’s Disease and moderate to advanced dementia. While I had the support of my loving family and friends, it was hard being responsible 24/7 for his care and watching the love of my life decline. I often felt alone and fearful that I would not be able to get through a particularly hard day. The two cards that helped give me comfort and strength are ‘There is no spot … where God is not’ and ‘At times we’ve all wondered if we’re big and strong enough … you are.’ My dear, dear husband passed away on June 5, 2022, and those two cards still help me now, as I walk through the grief process.

“You know you’re a Cardie when you find yourself sending someone two cards at the same time because you can’t decide which to send! They both say the exact words that someone needs or would love to hear.”
