A gifted photographer, Mauri emailed us from her home in Washington, Missouri in June of 2020. She attached a series of great photos and wrote, “A friend who finds your cards locally suggested I submit some of my images, so I decided to take her advice and send these.” We responded right away that we especially loved this endearing image; we found it very poignant given it arrived during the tumultuous times following the death of George Floyd.
“I spotted these three one hot summer evening a few years ago,” Mauri explained, “They were sure having a good time. If only we could all see through the eyes of a child … the beauty of color, there in black and white.” And we used it to illustrate our Cardie Newsletter June 4.
A week after Justice Ginsburg passed away, we received another email from Mauri. We scrolled down below her subject line — Remembering RBG — and there was this breathtaking photo.
“As I was leaving Shaw Nature Reserve this morning,” Mauri wrote, “I saw this spider web. It reminded me so much of RBG’s beautiful lace collars. I shot the picture, got in my car, and turned on the radio just in time to hear RBG’s eulogy given by her rabbi. I felt so blessed to have felt RBG’s presence in nature here today!”
