My love of cards started in my childhood. My Nana used to send me cards in which she wrote a note that ended with her big, beautiful signature and there was always $2 tucked inside. What joy! She continued the practice until she died at 87 in 1983.
In 1984, I started my career in the USPS, where I touched thousands of cards over my 31-year-career. I also touched the lives of hundreds of people over those years with those cards — literally and figuratively touched peoples’ lives.
The kids loved to run up to me and say hi! And I used to say that, every day at the mailbox was a “surprise gift waiting to be opened.” I would always give the kids stickers (haha that explains my love for your Spread the Love Not the Virus stickers!) Good memories …
A card with its handwritten signature brings news of joy and sadness, and comforts others in a way that only a card can. Emailing, texting, and social media cannot compete with reaching out and touching someone with a card. I know. People told me that every day. And I know from personal experience.
I look for wonder-filled, beautiful cards wherever I go. I seek the perfect stamp. People have commented on the joy and wonder they receive from me because of cards. So, I know.
Great Cardie Quote by Lauri
She introduced herself to the Cardie Community in November of 2023, by saying so poignantly, “I take great care crafting what I want to say and pray it meets whoever is receiving it exactly where they are and where it needs to.
“Cardthartic is the best,” Sarah continued. “The words, the photos, the design. I love how there is always the right card to fit what I want to say. As the unique words fill gaps that convey the deeper message — and paired with such beautiful photography — it’s a win every time I send or receive one in the mail!”
That felt like high praise from a woman who is herself an amazing writer and photographer! Sarah went on to submit several images that we are holding on to until we find just the right words. And we wasted no time publishing her loving message about “discovering that life is better when you go together” on wedding shower design 94164, which she dedicated “To my husband, Eric.”
Sarah says, “You know you’re a Cardie when you stand in front of a selection of cards and take a crazy amount of time going through each one to find the perfect card to represent what you want to express.” No doubt many Cardies will find that she’s written just such a card!
The timing of this email is perfect — with the season of Lent beginning next week, many people are pondering what to “give up.” Instead, I am preparing to “add on” a practice I have done for the past three years. I will mail a card with “thinking of you” to a person who loves to receive “real mail” six days per week, and Cardthartic cards makes this fun and easy!
I love the story of Lauri’s Nana sending cards with $2 tucked inside. The gift was welcome ($2 was a lot!) but more important was that this grandmother continued the practice until she died at age 87
“A card with a handwritten signature brings news of joy and sadness, and comforts in a way that only a card can.” I hope that the recipients of my cards during Lent 2024 will feel the love I share. With Cardthartic’s help, I just make this a year-round project. ❤️
Image of Difference
At the company where I worked for over 32 years we always stressed to our sales people the importance of creating an “image of difference.” That is to set yourself apart from the other sales people calling on your customers and prospects. Things such as sending a birthday card or thank you note … hand written and mailed with a distinctive first class postage stamp. This simple gesture will go a long way in creating that “image of difference.”
