“You could say that Cardthartic runs in my blood: My mother happened to move into the same apartment building as Jodee in 2010 and, today, is the company’s CEO!
“While teaching music has always been my passion, I had my first taste of card writing in 2012. My mom asked me — a lifelong Colorado Rockies baseball fan — to take a stab at a Meanings of Life Baseball card message. How cool it was to see my name on the back of a card!
“Two years later, I was asked to write out the notation for ‘All You Need Is Love’ for the Meanings of Life Music card, for which Contributing Cardie Rosemary Tolliver wrote the message. Little did I know that — a decade later, when I felt I needed to step away from teaching music — Jodee would recruit me to become Cardthartic’s Cardie Community Manager. For a year I had the pleasure of teaming with great Contributing Cardies that included Rosemary! I found the fun Tug of War dog image that we all felt matched perfectly with a message of Rosie’s … and the resulting Passages design became my favorite card in my first card release.
“Like all good Cardies, the designs that most resonate with me are those that connect directly to my life or to the life of the person I’m sending to. Because I love going to the lake in the summer, the Meanings of Life Paddleboard card is one that I really enjoy. I especially love all the Little Reminders … I love light, fun cards, and the witty quips on the front are what do it for me!
“In October 2021, I made the bittersweet decision to leave Cardthartic to return to my first love, the music world. I took with me a whole new appreciation for cards. I now know what it takes to make them! Back when I was teaching, I had a whole wall in my office filled with cards from my students and their families; I would read them whenever I needed a boost or a reminder of why I love teaching. It really does make someone feel amazing to get a thank you card when they least expect it!”
