As Cardthartic’s South Carolina Rep, it’s been gratifying to help Wild Birds Unlimited co-owners Abbie Pressley and Melanie Moore-Shaw offer cards their customers really love … and help the mother/daughter team grow their business. The two had discovered Cardthartic on their own in July 2012 at the annual supplier show WBU hosts for its 340 store franchisees. Cardthartic loves to exhibit there, as we’ve found WBU owner/operators to be such nice, passionate, nature-loving folks. Melanie originally ordered just enough cards to fill a little 16-pocket counter spinner — half-dozens of 16 different designs — but could soon tell that offering a larger selection would increase sales.

In the years since, customer demand for Cardthartic has only continued to grow — some customers come to the store just to purchase the cards alone. We tried a 64-pocket floor spinner for awhile and, two years ago, Melanie agreed it was time for a 96. Promising to take the 64-pocket spinner back on my next visit, when I went to pick it up, Melanie asked if she could hold on to it instead, in the event they’d need it in the future.

As it turns out, with the 96-pocket spinner in place, this Wild Birds store really, really started selling cards! Melanie brought the 64-pocket out of storage and added corner pockets to it and the 96 both so, now — taking up just four-square feet of valuable retail space — her customers have the choice of 224 Cardthartic designs! And have I mentioned she also carries magnets? :)
